What happens at my first appointment?

Your first appointment will last up to an hour.  This gives us plenty of time to get a thorough understanding of what is going on and time to answer any questions you may have.

I will begin by asking questions about your symptoms, your general medical history, and your lifestyle.    This will be followed by an examination where I assess your posture and how your body moves, normally by asking you to perform some simple movements.  It may also involve additional clinical tests such as taking your blood pressure or a neurological examination.

I will then explain my findings and diagnosis and discuss a suggested treatment plan with you.  This will include gentle hands on techniques to  stretch muscles and mobilise joints to help release tension so that you can move more comfortably.  I will usually also suggest exercises that you can do at home.  I may provide additional advice such as stress management techniques, workplace set up, breathing exercises and postural advice.

What should I wear?

To allow me to examine and treat effectively, you may be asked to remove some outer items of clothing.  You may wish to bring shorts or leggings (and for ladies a sports bra).  The most important thing is that you are comfortable.
